This militia horseman’s battle saber is a 1796 style pattern. Manufactured to resemble the British model of the time. However, there are no identifiable British markings, which leads us to believe this piece was American made, or made for export. Definitely war of 1812 Era and most likely used in that engagement. This sabers blade measures 26.25 inches long, 1.25 inches thick and has an overall length of 31 inches. The blade has signs of being shortened in length after production.
