This is an unusually artistic piece of trench art and one we have never seen before. It is a crucifix made of several bullets with a figure of Jesus Christ on the cross on top of a WW1 German belt buckle insignia.
The cross stands approx. 7.00 inches high with a crossbeam approx. 3.00 inches wide. The main spar of the cross is made of two .30 caliber cartridges end to end. The nose of the bullet on the lower cartridge is soldered to a very nicely formed brass stand. The bullet on the upper cartridge forms the top of the cross.
The horizontal beam of the cross is formed by taking two .30 bullets from their casings and inserting them into holes cut in the side of the top projectile mentioned above. The bullets are placed nose outward thus forming the crossbeam.
Soldered at the point where all the cartridges meet is a medallion removed from a German enlisted man’s belt buckle displaying a crown at center surrounded by the motto “GOTT MIT UNS”. The figure of the crucified Christ is placed on the cross so the crown on the German medallion and its motto are just above His head.
